Customs rules for the USA and Puerto Rico (from Swedish Postnord)

From October 23, 2025, it is once again possible to send goods to the USA and Puerto Rico.

Update of regulations from February 24, 2026: The change means that the customs duty rate is now set at 15% regardless of the country of origin of the goods. This applies until further notice.

To meet US customs requirements, we have developed a solution for paying US customs duties. The solution is called Postal Delivered Duties Paid (PDDP).

According to the new regulations, customs duties must be paid before arrival. There are some exceptions that remain duty-free:

* Gifts between private individuals worth less than 100 USD

*Letters that only contain documents

*Various types of information material, e.g. writings, films, posters, photographs etc.

Senders are now required to provide complete and accurate electronic customs information when booking. This includes product descriptions in English, declared value, country of origin and a 10-digit HS classification code.

At PostNord, we handle customs duties on behalf of the sender and ensure that the recipient is not charged any additional fees upon delivery. ”
