PostNord temporarily pauses certain mail shipments to the USA
PostNord (Swedish Post) announces that as of August 23, it will temporarily pause mail shipments containing goods to the USA and Puerto Rico. This is due to a recent change in the customs and tariff rules for the USA, which means that the De Minimis exemption for incoming goods is removed.
The De Minimis exemption is a US trade rule that means that goods with a low value (under 800 USD) can be brought into the country without paying duties or taxes. The rule is designed to simplify and speed up the import process for small shipments.
The repeal of the De Minimis rule removes the previous exemption, which means that all goods – with the exception of gifts sent by private individuals, which are worth less than 100 USD and packages with a declared value of more than 800 USD – must have duties paid before arriving in the United States. The carrier is responsible for ensuring compliance. The rule change will come into effect on August 29, 2025 and will have a significant impact on international postal services and e-retailers.
On August 15, US authorities announced the details of the implementation and the requirements. Due to the short timeframe to adapt to the new requirements, PostNord is temporarily suspending shipments to the US and Puerto Rico until a solution that meets the requirements has been developed and implemented.
We use PostNord for all our shipping so we cannot ship to US addresses until PostNord pause is ended.
